Com Eric Brunson a sair de estrada na primeira especial do Rallye Rouergue, Olivier Marty conseguiu fazer o pleno aos ser o mais rápido em todos os troços e liderar o evento do principio ao fim.
Sylvain Michel perdeu muito tempo no inicio, teve uma boa luta com Frédéric Raynal, mas viria a subir à segunda posição por troca com Raynal e ser cada vez mais o líder do campeonato.
